Barbara Murock recognized as a "Newsmaker"

 

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review recently recognized Barb Murock, an alumna of the Policy Center, as a "Newsmaker." Barb works as a health policy analyst for the Allegheny County Department of Human Services.

 

 

Dr. Irwin returns from Afghanistan

Dr. Lewis Irwin, a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves, recently returned from a seven-month tour of duty in Afghanistan and has been nominated for appointment to colonel. On March 12 he spoke to a large audience of interested colleagues and students on "The Challenges of Afghanistan." Dr. Irwin, an associate professor of political science, teaches "Social and Public Policy Analysis" and "Politics of Civic Problems" in the Policy Center.

Drs. McIntyre and Sawicki receive awards

Two Policy Center faculty members will receive recognition at the McAnulty College and Graduate School of Liberal Arts' awards reception April 17 at 3 P.M.

Dr. Moni McIntyre will receive the College's Excellence in Service to the Mission award for 2007-08. Dr. McIntyre teaches "Theory and Practice of Conflict Resolution," "Non-violent Social Change," and "Community Organizing and Social Movements" in the Policy Center.

 

Dr. and Fr. John Sawicki, Associate Professor of Political Science, will receive the College's Excellence in Teaching award for 2007-08. Fr. Sawicki teaches courses in "Terrorism" and "American Defense Policy" in the Policy Center.

Dr. Conti teaches Inside-Outside

Dr. Norman Conti, Associate Professor of Sociology, mixed 17 Duquesne students, including students in the Policy Center, with 17 inmates in a "Criminal Justice Policy" course taught at Pennsylvania's Cresson Correctional Institution in the fall 2007 semester. Dr. Conti is one of only 130 instructors nationwide to be trained in teaching in the Inside-Outside program.

Fifth annual Policy Center Conference focuses on poverty policy

The Policy Center's Fifth Annual Conference on Policy Analysis and Conflict Resolution, scheduled for April 15 and 16, 2008, will be cosponsored by the Policy Center and Duquesne University's Center for Catholic Social Thought. The theme for the meetings will be "Poverty Policy: The Continuing Issues and Debate."
