Concentrations
Policy Analysis
and Administration
The concentration in policy
analysis and administration prepares graduates
to research and devise policies to respond to
today's challenging social and public problems,
appropriate preparation for those who will continue
graduate studies, those who work as administrators
or managers in public or non-profit organizations,
and those who simply want the tools to understand
how policy is analyzed, made, and carried out.
Conflict
Resolution and Peace Studies
The concentration in conflict resolution and peace
studies prepares graduates for involvement in
various facets of conciliation and peacemaking.
Goals for the Center's transformational approach
to training in peacemaking include:
-to impart ethical, religious
and philosophical insights of peace studies;
- to integrate a peace studies approach with
practical training in the analytical and interventionist
skills of conflict resolution;
- to ameliorate conflict situations in Western
Pennsylvania, the United States and the developing
world.
A transformational approach views peacemaking
as an activity that must take into consideration
the structures and broader movements of a group
or society experiencing conflict. It is value-oriented.
